tin ornaments

It's been a random cold couple days here in the PNW, and I reached for this oldschool craft: tin ornaments. I was inspired a bit by Pentel's Upcycling challenge. These are made from takeout lids from a certain fast-casual restaurant ...You cut out the shape you want from the tin, smooth out the metal with something like a bonefolder, then use an embossing tool to inscribe your design - or even a ballpoint pen works, like the Hybrid Technica, to emboss. You can also make a fancy custom card, by just supergluing them onto the cover of a card

Vinyl Revival

I create floral displays using damaged or discarded vi

nyl records that would otherwise end up in a landfill for 1000 year

In addition to the small effort of being Earth friendly, I do it in the hopes of bringing joy to the eyes of someone whether it be in visual appeal or simply reminanissing about a long lost record is brought back to life in a differnt form yet in the flowers are still all the lyrics that shaped us.

Bullet Journaling Beginner

Pencils, pens, highlighters, markers, stencils, stickers, erasers, … scissors… and of course my ADHD brain … loving it to the extreme! Purchased some pencils and stumbled on this group. Any tips for beginners with bullet journaling ? Hoping to practice focusing on a regular. Even listening to “The Art of Focus” by Dan Koe… 🤨🤯

*** lol! Posted above and then found a group specifically for said topic. I mistakenly thought this was the one ☝️. Though this is still a group I am interested in because planning is a big part of my work.

Final week of #ArtCycle2026!

It’s the last week to join #artcycle2026! We’re inviting creators to turn everyday materials into something extraordinary and share the process here inside the Pentel Challenge Group.

Look around your space. What objects or materials are sitting unused, forgotten, or ready to be thrown away? How can you reimagine their use?

Instead of discarding them, ArtCycle them. We hope to see your submission this week!

Books on Calligraphy

Does anyone have any favorite books on lettering and calligraphy? I know it's pretty foundational, but I found an opensource copy of George Bickham's Universal Penman on the internet archive. This books is still my go to for ornamental and decorative script: https://archive.org/details/gri_33125008538056/mode/2up

that book is so incredible. I hadn't heard of it. It's not calligraphy but just lettering: EC Matthew's book "Sign Painting Course" is awesome; he is a favorite author amongst old-school sign painters. Also, I love Better Letters Magazine (BLAG). It's an incredible resource; their newsletter and their digital/physical magazine. AND the old book "Henderson's Sign Painting" book by John Ohnimus is so good. (The Matthews and Ohnimus books are available on archive . org - I'd link to them, but I think it gets tagged as spam - posted this comment before with links, and it got flagged. The books are Google-able though!).
