I thought I would share one of my portraits I drew.
My drawing technique I think is somewhat unique. I don’t use any blending tools. I create my smooth tones and textures by layering my graphite by making tiny overlapping circular motions with my pencils. I use Pentel P205 mechanical pencils exclusively with Pentel’s Hi-Polymer 4H, 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, and 4B graphite.
The creaminess and smoothness of the Pentel graphite has been the staple in my work for over 20 years. It lays down extremely smooth and is easy to achieve natural and smooth contrast in tones by layering and varying my hand pressure.
My focus is to draw and create what I observe instead of only relying on drawing what I see (I believe there is a difference).
