Pointliners!

Here is an example of a piece created using strictly Pointliners, specifically 0.3, 0.5, and 0.8. I have been singing the praises of the brush pens (color brush, duo pointflex, etc) so much lately that I have been neglecting the backbone of any comic artist or mangaka's toolset. The tech pens! This piece is a promotional poster for an upcoming IC3 (Indie Comics Creator Con) event. I roughed in the design initially with the graphgear mechanical pencil, and then started adding in details with the 0.3 pointliner. I recommend inking over a loose layout. After sketching thumbnails and then a small study, I konow what details the final piece needs. Inking on top of the loose pencil allows for a fun and fresh looseness in the inks. It leaves room for creativity with the inks, so that one is actually drawing with ink, not just tracing over the pencils. The last step was going over the outlines with the 0.8 to add depth and clarity to the characters and distinguish between the foreground and background.
