Pointliners!

Here is an example of a piece created using strictly Pointliners, specifically 0.3, 0.5, and 0.8. I have been singing the praises of the brush pens (color brush, duo pointflex, etc) so much lately that I have been neglecting the backbone of any comic artist or mangaka's toolset. The tech pens! This piece is a promotional poster for an upcoming IC3 (Indie Comics Creator Con) event. I roughed in the design initially with the graphgear mechanical pencil, and then started adding in details with the 0.3 pointliner. I recommend inking over a loose layout. After sketching thumbnails and then a small study, I konow what details the final piece needs. Inking on top of the loose pencil allows for a fun and fresh looseness in the inks. It leaves room for creativity with the inks, so that one is actually drawing with ink, not just tracing over the pencils. The…

DAAAAAAAANG!

Pentel Field Trip!

What an artistic blast it was to catch up (and Sketch up!) with some fellow Pentel art heads in St. Louis recently. Kicked off the National Art Materials Trade Association conference weekend with an epic paper tablecloth ink jam with the amazing Chris Koehler (pics 2 and 3). I rode the inspirational vibes all weekend and here are a few highlights.
